Care Group News
1. Quarterly Leadership Meetings: All CARE Group leaders are encouraged to attend a quarterly meeting designed to inform you of upcoming events that directly impact the CARE Group ministry and provide an opportunity for all leaders to share ideas and receive practical encouragement (not to mention some great food and fellowship!) These meetings will take place 3/29/07, 8/30/07 and 12/06/07 at the church. If you missed the most recent meeting, please check out a summary provided for you by clicking on the appropriate date.
2. "Just Walk Across the Room": Have you been frustrated by ever-multiplying "techniques" on evangelism that left you and the person with whom you wished to share your faith feeling uncomfortable? Now there is a new resource available that focuses on changing our hearts rather than giving us a new technique or acronym. "Just Walk Across the Room" will challenge you and your CARE Group to conform to the heart of Christ who, centuries ago, walked across time and space to share the love of God with everyone He met. In the context of everyday events and common-place relationships, you will learn to be genuine and effective in helping others take a step toward faith in Christ. In this four-week series you will utilize a DVD, featuring practical teaching by Bill Hybels and dramatic real-life stories that will stimulate your discussion on key concepts. Please contact the church office to secure a DVD for your group. To aid in your exploration of these concepts, Pastor Hardison has prepared DISCUSSION GUIDES for each of the four sessions. Have a great journey!
3. "Operation Andrew": Tab church is participating in the upcoming Franklin Graham Greater Hampton Roads Festival May 18-20, 2007 at the Scope in downtown Norfolk. CARE Group leaders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the outreach strategy called Operation Andrew and solicit participation from members of your group. For details on Operation Andrew CLICK HERE. For a handout to share with your small group CLICK HERE. For general information on the Festival CLICK HERE.
4. Connecting Elders and Deacons with CARE Group Leaders: As a result of our pastoral leadership transition, Pastor Rich has taken the point role in shepherding the CARE Group ministry, with the help of Dan Crabtree, elder. Each of Tab’s elders has been assigned a cluster of CARE Group leaders to provide prayer support, practical help where needed, and to encourage interconnectedness of church leaders. The intent is for information to flow from the Elder Board through the CARE Group leaders to the group members and vice versa. In addition, elders are encouraged to provide opportunities for CARE Group leaders to gather informally to address common needs, sharpen each other’s skills, and promote fellowship. Plans are to get together with your elder on the fifth Sundays of the year (4/29, 7/29, 9/30 and 12/30). Deacons will also be available to support individual CARE Group leaders with practical ministry needs. Feel free to contact the pastor or elder currently assigned to serve you: CLICK HERE
5. Men’s Ministry inside CARE Groups: CARE Group leaders are encouraged to regularly incorporate opportunities for men (and women) in their groups to gather separately for discussion and/or prayer sessions in order to help foster more candid interactions that address the unique spiritual needs of each gender. Feedback from CARE Groups that have done this has been very positive. Leaders are encouraged to promote other fun, informal activities for men and women in their groups to weld relationships.
6. Service Projects: Volunteers are needed to assist in maintaining the church facilities and keep the grounds in great shape. Consider how your CARE group may participate by offering to gather for a work session, providing one or more of the following much-needed services:
Cleaning the kitchen or other area inside the church
Edging, lawn mowing, weeding
Trimming bushes and trees
Seeding lawns, planting annuals and perennials
Minor parking lot maintenance, blowing parking lot clean
Snow and ice removal as required
Contact the church office to arrange your project.
7. Outreach Ministries: Opportunities for individuals or groups to provide practical acts of compassion to those in need in our community are listed for you. CLICK HERE
8. CARE Group Ministry Support Team: The pastoral support staff continues to be available to assist you in finding resources, connecting new people to your group and managing the information needed to keep the lines of communication open. Karen Young, Pastor Hardison's administrative assistant, has been joined by Tiffani Lincoln, to improve our ability to connect people and keep our data base current. Soon we will add a web-based service that will greatly enhance this process. Stay tuned!
